What
is a clinical trial? |
A clinical
trial is a research study conducted by a physician who investigates
the effects of a medication. After initial laboratory and safety
studies are completed, the medication is given to qualified
study participants to evaluate potential benefits.

take part in a clinical trial? |

are a number of reasons for participation in research studies

What
can I expect if I am enrolled in a study? |

You
will be completely informed regarding your involvement in
the study and all risks and benefits will be explained to
you.

You
will receive a medical/physical examination by a physician
and your diagnosis and plan of care will be discussed.

Upon
completion of the evaluation/screening phase you may elect
to continue enrollment in the study if you meet all of the
study requirements

Throughout
the course of the study you will meet regularly with the
physician and study coordinator and your progress will be
closely monitored

You
are encouraged to ask questions throughout the course of
the study

What
medications will I be given? |

You
will be given a study medication based on your diagnosis

All
of the known potential side effects of the medication are
thoroughly explained prior to initiation of your treatment

Should
you develop side effects or your symptoms worsen, the physician
overseeing your care will take all necessary steps to ensure
your safety

In some
studies the medication being studied may be compared to
a placebo. A placebo is an inactive substance. Both you
and your physician may not be aware of the fact that you
are receiving a placebo

What
is the role of my personal physician? |

We encourage
you to discuss the option of enrolling in a
research study with your personal physician
-
If your
personal physician would like to be kept informed of your
status while in the study, a release form can be signed
to allow communication between treating physicians. After
the study, follow up information will be provided to your
physician upon request
